Background

GCC region is well served region as far as Healthcare is concerned. In the formative years the Healthcare spending in the region was entirely by Public Sector. However over the years the role of Private sector is increasing the highest share of Private sector being in UAE where Private sector has invested almost as much as Public Sector.Though lifestyle diseases have spurted especially obesity, Diabetes, Blood pressure the Governments have spent sufficiently and effectively in prevention and treatment of these and other deadly diseases.

The region has been well protected economically during global recession and has infact made reasonable good economic  growth despite global headwinds.

In the year 2020 GCC spent a combined of 86.8 billion Dollars likely to reach 140 billion dollars by 2027(in the same time UAE likely to go from 19.7 billion Dollars to 30 billion Dollars).Currently the Healthcare Spending percentage of GDP is 6.2% much behind OECD average of 9% and US average of 17%. GCC and UAE should catch up in the next few years by spending on highly advanced medical treatment and increasing the depth of the Healthcare infrastructure.
